Anyway

People are unreasonable, illogical and self-centered
Love them anyway
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives
Do good anyway
If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies
Succeed anyway
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable
Be honest and frank anyway
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow
Do good anyway
The biggest people with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest people with the smallest minds
Think big anyway
People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs
Fight for some underdogs anyway
What you spent years building may be destroyed overnight
Build anyway
Give the world the best you have and you get kicked in the teeth
Give the world the best you've got anyway

Reader’s Digest, Dec 1982

  1. Isn't this Mother Teresa's rather than Reader's Digest's?

  2. Apparently the original version is called "The Paradoxical Commandments" written in 1968 by Dr. Kent M. Keith. Reader's Digest seemed to publish only 9 out of 10 items. There is indeed another version found written on the wall in Mother Teresa's home for children in Calcutta credited to her. This one also has 9 items, more poetic and acknowledges God as the reason to do those actions. Thanks for pointing it out.
